Who's For Cats?
Who's For Cats? is a program that has been developed by Victorian Bureau of Animal Welfare and eleven animal welfare organisations, including The Lost Dogs' Home. Cat overpopulation in Victoria is at crisis point. There are grave concerns for the welfare over half a million stray cats living on our streets in unacceptable conditions. Who's For Cats? is fighting to reduce the thousands of kittens born into disease and neglect every year. Annually, 50,000 feral and stray cats are impounded and 35,000 of these have to be euthanized.
The cat overpopulation problem is due to a number of factors. One major contributing factor is people feeding unowned cats but not taking full ownership or responsibility for them. These semi-owners don't desex, vaccinate or microchip the cats they feed, or keep them on their property. Feeding unowned cats helps regenerate cat colonies by keeping them strong enough to reproduce more kittens into starvation and disease.

People who feed unowned cats need to make a decision; to either be a responsible owner and fully adopt the cat (and have it desexed, vaccinated and microchipped) or call their local council to arrange to have the cat collected.
